"Vicissim" is an adverb, right? I can't seem to find confirmation one way or the other online right now and it's bugging me. I must know!
I ask because a friend was showing me these handmade beads, one of which is inscribed:
"Lux et umbra vicissim, sed semper amore."
Light and shadows by turns, but always love.

That is exactly what it means- "by turns,' 'alternatingly.'
It comes from a defective noun 'vice' (ablative only) which means something like 'in turn.'
Oh, and I want to see the finished product when you are done with those beads, ok?
