So, we are in the final few weeks (days) of classes for this term. Congrats to those who have made it to this point, especially those on the 2-day matrix for Latin. I found an article out here on the net, not exactly pertaining to Latin directly, but it covers students learning about Ancient Greek, and Akkadian. For those of us beginning and finishing our first semester of Latin and thought we hard it hard. Check out what Akkadian is...it's an ancient Semitic language written in Cuneiform. Its actually the 3rd oldest language according to this article. Very impressive, yah?

Candis, this is a genious and funny piece! It is SO TRUE that teaching ancient languages (I refuse the term "dead" with a vengeance!!!) cannot be as 'fun' as teaching contemporary ones. The opening of the article puts it precisely so:
For some people, foreign language meant the requisite Spanish or French begrudgingly taken in high school: hola and Bonjour, adios and au revoir. Special occasions are marked by tortillas and crepes courtesy of the kindly profesora or professeur
Meanwhile, I have to deal with Quintus coming from the farm and Argus devouring the dinner, and all this as the Roman Republic is falling into a civil war between Caesar and Pompey (for those of you who haven't seen HBO's 'Rome' the OLC will have to do!!). I wouldn't change this story with anything, not even crepes or tortillas....
Thank you for putting it out there---that's exactly the kind of thing that I want us to share.
