the plaque

as requested... :D

Camera phone images, but they're all I've got...

Prof. M's:

While I'm at it, I figured I'll post pictures of the other two I've done too...

Lauren's birthday gift:

Guess what her favorite color is... LOL!

The idea for Lauren's came from her reaction to seeing this one below. She said something like, "That's awesome! But it should say, 'Behold! Everything is purple!'"

This one was the first one I did, created for my parents' farm in Virginia. I thought: The cabin needs a sign in Latin for the porch... Yes, indeed.

My plaque is famous! woot. I totally show it to *everyone* who comes in. I even deconstructed it for my mom, telling her what was what and what case it took and why. she shook her head and muttered something about why couldn't i have just learned Spanish instead. (that's a cuban mother for you!)

HOW did you get that particular shade of purple?! You made it my new favorite color---well, second to rosy PINK of course!

Thank you so much for posting mine here, I can hardly believe I own this masterpiece...

It's wonderful to be blessed with a talent like that, a passion--for art, literature, numbers, whatever!

LOL! Thank you!

That's how the color came out of the bottle... It's Michael's Crafts' own brand of acrylic paint (can't remember the name) and the color is "lavender." I think the darker color is simply "purple." But I'll double-check that when I get home. Glad you like it.

I've also made one sign in English, for my biological mother, Susan. It says, "Bless your heart," in sage green, and has blueberries on it. It matches her kitchen and that's where it's hanging right now. The saying comes from the fact that it seems a southern lady can say any mean or rude thing she wants to about anyone and still be considered polite as long as she follows it with "bless your/his/her/their heart" as if that phrase excuses everything. For example, "That is the ugliest baby I have ever seen! Bless his heart!" It's a funny little idiomatic thing we were talking about one day and I thought she needed a plaque that said it. So I made her one for last Christmas.

I also made a small plaque with three stylized sunflowers in a row. Very "Country Living" looking... That one will probably go up somewhere inside the cabin at the farm once the cabin is finished in March.

I am seriously considering selling them. They are really fun to make and don't take nearly as long as knitted items do (which is why I don't really want to try to sell knitted items in any quantity). Each of these that I posted took under five days to make, and I had to design and cut out the lettering on custom stencils because I couldn't find premade stencils I liked for them. If I don't have to cut any stencils out, I can make a plaque in less than a day, or two days at most.
